Therapy
Therapy is a space to unpack and deeply understand your story, perceptions, and past wounds that may be causing more disruption in your life than you’d like. While this work can feel challenging, it offers life-changing insights and lasting transformation.
Therapy Services Offered
Stress Management
Our bodies aren't made to hold up to the demands that we put them through on a daily basis. Being in a constant state of stress on a daily basis is taxing on our physical and mental health. Whether you are struggling to find balance with work, family, social, finances, spiritual or physical health, we can find ways to help you achieve your goals (or redefine them if necessary) and lower your stress responses.
Anxiety
Stress and anxiety are closely connected. The more stress we are under the more susceptible we are to anxiety. Many people have lived with anxiety most of their lives, while others develop it later in life. Either way we can work together to find ways to better manage your stressors and your anxiety.
Depression
Symptoms of depression are one of the most common mental health symptoms most of us will experience during our lifetime. Depression symptoms range from mild to severe. Sometimes we experience them because of a difficult situation we are going through and sometimes we can't identify the cause. Whether you are experiencing seasonal depression, grief or loss, or biological symptoms, we can work together to help decrease your symptoms and help lift the fog.
Trauma
Whether you have experienced trauma from work related service, a childhood experience, a car accident or a bad break up, you may be experiencing ongoing issues from the event. By resolving the issue and being able to process it differently, you may have freedom from the event.
EMDR
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a type of psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing experiences.
While this type of therapy is most commonly associated with trauma such as PTSD, it is successfully used for a variety of issues including anxiety or depression resulting from current and past life experiences. Most people find that they are able to work through disturbing events much faster with this type of therapy than with others.
While this type of treatment is suitable for most people, it's not for everyone. During the intake process we will determine if this is a good option for you.
In order to begin the desensitization and reprocessing phases, both hemispheres of the brain are activated (bilateral processing) by either activating eye-movements or by using tactile stimulation (little vibrating handles you hold on to). After each set of movements you will briefly describe what you experienced.
While it is difficult to predict how long treatment will last since each person and situation is different, many are able to resolve the presenting issue within 12-20 sessions.
At the end of EMDR therapy, previously disturbing memories and present situations should no longer be problematic, and new healthy responses should be the norm.
Brain Spotting
Brainspotting is a powerful therapeutic technique that helps you access and process unresolved trauma, anxiety, and emotional pain stored in your brain and body. By guiding your gaze to specific points in your field of vision, brainspotting helps unlock and release these deeply held emotions, promoting healing at a core level. It’s a gentle, focused approach that works beneath the surface to bring lasting relief and clarity.
Safe and Sound Protocol
The Safe & Sound Protocol (SSP) is a practical application of Polyvagal Theory, designed to reduce sound sensitivities and improve auditory processing, behavioral state regulation, and social engagement behaviors through specially-filtered music.

FAQ's
1Do You Take Insurance?
Kama Hurley is in-network with a limited number of insurance carriers. If you have insurance and would like to bill it, you should call your insurance company and ask if Kama Hurley is an in-network or out-of-network provider, how much deductible you will need to pay before they begin to cover services, and how much your copay or coinsurance will be for out patient behavioral health counseling.
2What if you are out-of-network?
Most plans include out-of-network coverage. Typically you will have a separate deductible, and then the insurance will cover a % once that is met (typically around 60%). You will need to pay the fee at the time of service, and then you have two options to submit this to insurance. I can issue you a superbill which you submit to your insurance, or I have partnered with Mentaya who can submit on your behalf.
3What is Mentaya?
We've partnered with Mentaya, a service that streamlines getting reimbursed for your therapy sessions through out-of-network benefits. Mentaya is perfect if you:
• Have out-of-network benefits
• Feel overwhelmed by superbills and insurance
• Have submitted superbills but failed to get any reimbursement
• Simply want to skip the hassle of paperwork!
Here's how it works: 1. Sign up for Mentaya: https://mentaya.co/inviteclient/OMdnqPcdd2xSZgKuRhbI
2. Our practice will enter your sessions into the platform.
3. Mentaya submits the claim and handles any insurance follow-up.
4. You get reimbursed by insurance! Mentaya charges a 5% fee per claim (around $10), which includes handling any paperwork required, dealing with denials, and calling insurance companies.
4Is there a downside to using insurance?
Insurance does require a medical diagnosis and medical necessity in order for them to cover services. Not everyone qualifies for a mental health diagnosis or medical necessity and not everyone wants a mental health diagnosis as part of their medical record.
Insurance reserves the right to access your notes and treatment plan and can dictate the course of treatment.
Certain medical diagnoses will prohibit your ability to access certain services like life or disability insurance.
Please discuss this with your provider if you have any questions.
5Can I schedule online?
YES! Simply click the "Book Now" link above. Choose the office location (in person) or "Video Office" (Online/Phone). For phone appointments, please schedule in the "Video Office" and email me that you would like to meet by phone. Watch your email to see if your appointment was accepted. This email will contain a link to the client portal to fill out paperwork(if any).
6I scheduled an in-person appointment and need to change it
You can change your type of appointment from in-person to Telehealth up until your appointment time. Simply message me and I will update it.
If you have an in person appointment and are possibly sick, please contact me so I can change your appointment to a video session.
7What is your cancellation policy?
I ask for as much notice as possible to reschedule so I can offer someone else that time. You can cancel and request new appointments online.
There is a 24 hour cancellation policy. If you need to cancel within the 24 hour window, please contact me to let me know. The full-fee may be charged for appointments cancelled with less that 24 hours notice or for missed appointments.
8Do you offer free consultations?
I offer 20 minute free phone consultations as an opportunity to ask questions and get a feel for my style. You can book these through the portal, simply choose the video office, free consultation, and I will send you a form collecting some information and giving you a choice between video or phone. There are a limited number of these appointments available.
